I would love to go to the moon! Although, I think the ride there may be my personal deterrent...not an overly fond flyer. I think it is imperative that we go back to the moon as a stepping stone to Mars and potentially further out into space.

If we want to learn more about the planets and want to explore them we need to understand how to live in hostile places like the moon it has no atmosphere as we all know but there are materials there we can use to live off of and learning from that lesson we will develope the skills for man to go further out in the universe and then to our next great expedition beyond the moon the planet mars and then beyond into the galaxy.

The added capability of constructing vehicles outside of the gravity well, and therefor without all the expense attached to launching from Earth, is no small matter either.

The PR value makes sense, gets folks happy about Space Spending again. Although, what we need is a base station orbiting that has no gravity.

Mining the moon for helium-3 to be used in future fusion reactors is another good reason for a lunar return.
